Why is it that right before any storm is coming, everyone buys all the milk and bread? If shit is really that bad that I can't get to the store for a few days, I think I can survive without milk and bread. But for some reason those two items become hot commodities when shit is about to go down. It makes no sense to me!

and eggs :p
Hopefully I have enough Prestone Driveway Heat!

Not me. I buy coffee and wine.

That's the best solution: coffee to keep you awake when the apocalypse happens and you need to fend off the looters. Wine for when you have given up because those looters can't find your house buried under 40 feet of snow.

Yep! That's how I have it figured.

I'm not sure how much is people panic-buying milk and bread, and how much is people going to do their usual shopping a bit early. Milk and bread must be about the two shortest-lived products on the shelves, so the stores keep smaller stocks of them relative to normal daily demand. They wouldn't have to get all that many extra shoppers through the door to sell out, I guess.

You, you know your priorities.

As a parent of small children, there is nothing worse then the cries of children without milk. It's all the soccer/minivan parents stocking up to avoid the toddler apocalypse.

Indeed, I do!

Yeah, I guess it's just the procrastinators that end up with literally no food the day before and realize they would starve to death if they didn't go before the storm. It's an odd concept to me because I always have a good months worth food at any given time since I like variety.

I've got a 30 rack and some larger bottles of various IPAs. Bring on the storm.

When I was in college in Boston I went to the campus convenience store during one snow storm. They were completely out of bottled water. It was a giant cooler, so it was a little strange. I asked the clerk and she said a water main had burst and the 1800 students living in the campuses biggest dorm had no water.
I went to check it out, there was a car completely covered in ice where the water main had broken, and a bunch of college freshman going across the street to the academic building to go to the bathroom and brush their teeth.
Ever since then I always buy water when there might be a storm coming.

Yinzers seem to include eggs and toilet paper to that list, no idea why.

No snow coming here...

I was thinking more of the people whose usual shopping day is the day of the storm (or just after) bringing it forwards a day or two. I guess most of them have enough food in the house to survive, but they want to make sure they have everything they usually have.
I generally don't have all that much food in the house, but then I'm within walking distance of several supermarkets so we tend to use them as our extended pantry.

I don't buy milk and bread before a storm because milk is gross and the only time I ever buy it is when I'm making mac 'n cheese.
So if I feel like waiting out a storm with mass quantities of mac 'n cheese, then I'd be buying milk before a storm. And the other mac 'n cheese ingredients.
At this point I'd be THRILLED to get a good 6+ inches of snow. I'm in Wisconsin and we've gotten like only a foot of snow total all winter. We're way behind schedule. I've got my Grand Cherokee with the Hemi, spiffy electronic LSDs and beefy all-terrain tires with the severe snow duty rating, and I've had absolutely no reason to take advantage of any of those things because IT HASN'T SNOWED ENOUGH.
Then I'd drive to the store through a foot of snow, and come home and make mac 'n cheese.

Beer, bourbon and extra candles. And I make sure my Jerry cans are full...

Haha priorities. Its great to be an adult (by law at least) and decide to make mac and cheese. Often gets labeled as a kids food, but I'll be damned if ever stop eating my shitty boxed Mac N cheese!

Haha that is exactly what I was thinking.

that car must have looked pretty nuts. Imagine coming out to find your car literally frozen to the pavement. Yeah, I'm definitely bad with keeping water handy since I drink tap water 99% of the time anyways.

I did run to the store today, but I only bought the essentials (Oreos, Arnold Palmer, mac&cheese)

I'm talking about from scratch with many varieties of delicious Wisconsin cheese, not boxed crap.

French toast! Don't you all bulk up on french toast during a storm? Geez!

You know what should be a hot commodity? Pop tarts, water and toilet paper...

Yeah, that is a lot better but nothing beats how easy it is to make the boxed stuff. But yeah the real stuff is a helluva lot better if you have the time for it.

stale bread is better for that!
